Sonia is an award-winning international education practitioner. Trained as a music teacher at Bretton Hall College Sonia held teaching and leadership posts in schools and higher education. National and international projects focused on inclusion, leadership, and school improvement – Teach First programme, Achievement for All pilot on behalf of the Department for Education. the creation of the International Centre for Literacy, the teacher retention project (RETAIN), and lead researcher for the Department for Education on the European Agency for Inclusion, Raising Attainment project. Sonia chaired the Blackpool Challenge, founding trustee and vice-president Chartered College of Teaching, and founder Achievement for All Charity.
Sonia has edited and authored 53 books, 200 articles and blogs, receiving national acclaim for ‘Born to Fail? Social Mobility: A Working Class View’.
