Denbigh High School, Luton
Colin Townsend is presently the Headteacher of Denbigh High School; an all ability co-educational secondary school in Luton. As an Ofsted outstanding school, Denbigh High has SSAT Leading Edge status and an established reputation nationally for educational excellence and high standards. Colin benefits from twenty years of senior leadership experience gained within a diverse range of educational settings – including specialist vocational schools, high performing schools and those in challenging circumstances. Colin also undertook a four year role as a teaching and learning advisor working alongside middle and senior school leaders at the time of the National Strategies. He is a mathematics specialist. Colin enjoys and values his cross-phase leadership as a Governor at both a partner primary school and Luton’s sixth form college. In the last three years Colin has directed collaborative work, recognised widely by schools and Government – notably about assessment without national curriculum levels; measured approaches to safeguarding against radicalisation and the promotion of values for modern Britain; approaches to delivering the English Baccalaureate (EBacc); and strong schools remaining strong within the current school improvement landscape.
