Helen has worked as a Civil Servant since leaving University.  She has spent a large portion of her career at DWP working on a range of policies including labour market and employability, support for disabled people,  and the troubled families programme.  She joined DfE in 2018 initially taking a role on Early Years Policy before moving to her current post in November.  Helen works and lives in Sheffield, and is married with two children.

  • Understanding the key areas of Pupil Premium use that schools are accountable for, and should report against
  • Discussing ways schools should feel able to spend Pupil Premium, that isn’t directly on academic outcomes, such as on improving pupil’s mental health and on activities that will also benefit non-eligible pupils
  • Exploring future challenges and priorities for schools in supporting disadvantaged pupils and improving outcomes
  • Highlighting funding plans for primary and secondary age pupils in the 2021-22 financial year, and how these will aim to provide continuity from 2020-21
