Sally has 20 years experience in education, working in inner city secondary schools as teacher and senior leader. For the last 7 years she has been Headteacher of the Virtual School in Royal Greenwich, delivering improving outcomes for children in the care of the local authority. She is also the chair of the National Association of Virtual School Heads, a charity which aims to deliver improved outcomes for children in care through its work with Heads around the country and key strategic partners. The organisation have been key in working with the DFE on the effective use of the pupil premium plus are pleased that the amount allocated for looked after and previously looked after children has been increased this year.    

  • Assessing the developments to Pupil Premium Plus funding following the implementation of the National Funding Formula in 2018
  • Outlining the core needs of looked children and how Pupil Premium Plus can most effectively maximise pupil attainment
  • Sharing practical examples of intervention programmes that have delivered high impact outcomes for looked after children
  • Discussing the challenges and experiences facing local authorities supporting looked after children in the education system
  • Analysing the role of virtual heads in ensuring effective collaboration between local authority care services and schools in ensuring the needs of looked after children are met
